Farmers League Special
Farmers League #1
Antalyaspor v Istanbul Basaksehir (win) @ $1.73
New Antalya Stadium, 3.00am Saturday
Turkey is classified by many as the real centre piece of civilization as the West meets the East. Unfortunately, whilst other European countries were working on their first touch and human rights these farmers are still stuck in the dark ages in both a sporting and civil liberties perspective. Basa are simply the better side here and have everything to play for. It is reflected in the odds at $1.73 but I don’t see Constantinople falling as easily as it has in previous eras.
Farmers league #2
Wacker (double chance: win or draw) v Reid @ $1.44
Tivoli-Neu, 4.30am Saturday
Who’d have thought I’d be saying this 9 months ago but fuck there’s some juicy odds in the Austrian second league – Wacker to topple Reid at $3.10. Wacker are at the top of the table and although Reid are in some form, on some closer inspection it’s due to two early red cards in their past three games. As it’s the early game tomorrow I’m going to hedge my bets and take it at double chance, but I really think the bookies have missed a trick here but who can blame them? The only people watching this Sunday league are friends, family and average punters.
Farmers league #3
Celtic (win and BTTS) v Aberdeen @ $3.10
Celtic Park, 9.30pm Sunday
Everyone’s favourite hobby farm, old McDonald’s, where it all began a few months ago, the haggis league. It has everything a farmers league should have – awful pitches, cold weather and one team with most of the players running away with the league. There’s nothing in the rules against genetically modified farming and therefore there’s nothing wrong with loading up on Celtic. Your definition of ‘a class above’, bring-a-gun-to-a-knife-fight Celtic are 12 points clear and only dropping points to a known giant killer in Kilmarnock. At an easy viewing time of 9:30pm it’s hard to resist the spring time harvest and with Aberdeen having plenty to play for, it’ll be a good picking season for both sides.
Farmers League #4
Heidenheim v Greuther Furth (win) @ $2.80
Voith-Arena, 11:30pm Sunday
You have to go pretty low in the Germany football leagues for it to be classified as farmers given they are currently World Cup champions but if you don’t consider a relegation scrap in the Bundsliga 2 a farmers league then you don’t appreciate how dire these games can get. But as an Average Punter member I couldn’t be prouder of our most famous farmer, Domi Schad (pictured above), a big tall centre half whos defensive prowess is only matched by his composure on the ball. As he helps the boys stay up this season with a win away from home, I believe it will be the last time he’s shearing sheep, lucky enough to play for one of Bayern’s 124 feeder clubs, he’s a few good games away from former a good partnership with Kimmich. Watch this space.
