A League tips

Newcastle Jets (win) v Melbourne Victory @ $2.40

McDonald Jones Stadium, 7.50pm Saturday

This is long for Tier 1 or short for a Tier 2 but just such good value either way, given we are out of form I thought I’d take it as a Tier 2. The A-League is still very immature in its development and I think this is most evident at the tail end of the season. The EPL spend 38 games home and away to see who the best side in the comp is, the A-League do this in similar Australian sporting style with a finals series but with the added bonus of highest placed finisher hosting the final. This is such a huge advantage for a team from a one club town with tickets selling out in under 5 minutes. The coal miners haven’t had much to sing about since getting on the bags with their fave brothers in the late 90s, and with Pearce out for an extended period everyone will be behind the Jets this Saturday night. Games like grand finals, origin and qualifiers are won on big individual performances and the emotional lift that the Novacastrians will get mid way through the half is the exact reason we have neutral venues for big games like the Champions League. – Conservative Dave

Prediction: 2-1

Edit: Newcastle (win and BTTS) @ $4.25

Stuttgart v Hoffenheim (win over 2.5) @ $2.90

Mercedes Benz Arena, 11:30pm Saturday

As it’s getting to the business end of the season, the wins are all the more important and as much as this looks like a Conservative Dave leg it’s one that we need. Hoffenheim are on absolute fire at the moment and not even the injury of Serge Gnabry (Average Punter’s favourite son) is gonna slow them down. With Champions League football in the palm of their hand for the first time in the club’s history expect the attacking football to continue. Stuttgart’s first year back in the top flight has been impressive finishing in the top half of the table but with no chance of European football they’ll be counting down the days till seasons end. – Yogi

Prediction: 0-4

Frankfurt (win & BTTS) v Hamburg – $3.60

Frankfurt’s form has taken a tumble but earlier in the campaign that dismantled teams like RB Leipzig and Monchengladbach. They have it in them to come away with a home win here against a Hamburg side in high spirits after their win to Wolfsburg last weekend. Could be goals at both ends. – Le Professor

Prediction: 3-1

Villarreal (win and BTTS) v Valencia @ $3.90

Estadio de la Ceramica, 4.45am Sunday

Valenica look like they are tapering off, taking just two points from their last four matches as any hope of finishing higher than fourth has been killed off. The Yellow Submarine on the other hand, are full steam ahead with their third straight home game, winning the last two both in BTTS fashion. They will also be motivated by holding onto sixth spot to automatically qualify for Europa League next term. Bacca will lead the line and has tucked away six in his last four, look for him to get on the scoresheet again. – Big Show

Prediction: 2-1

$10 Multi @ 179.01 = $1,790.10
