Saudi Arabia v Egypt (win) @ $1.85
Volgograd Arena, 12.00am
Not too sure how much faith to put in these sides as it’s a dead rubber. It could so easily be a drab nil all draw if they want to dog it, and I’m definitely not counting that out. The only thing getting me over the line in this one is Mo Salah. He missed the first match through injury and whilst he scored late against Russia, Egypt were on the end of a toweling. He’ll be looking to go out with a bang and send the pharaohs home with 3 points and a 3rd place finish. The Saudi’s don’t have the luxury of a world class attacker and even though their performances against Uruguay was much better, I think this will be the difference.
Prediction: 0 – 1
Uruguay v Russia (BTTS) @ $2.05
Cosmos Arena, 12.00am
Another tough one to call here in group A and I’m not willing to back a winner. Uruguay will come out playing for the win as their goal difference is inferior to Russia and the way Putin’s men have been playing I doubt they’ll sit back. Uruguay are yet to hit their straps, possibly due to playing two very deep lying sides but hopefully a team willing to take them on will spark their attack. Rumours are that Torreira will come into the midfield, I assume for Bentacur, with the young ball winner just signing for the mighty Gunners I think he’ll be in for a huge game. All this being said I’m not overly confident in any result other than both teams hitting the back of the net.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Spain (win -1) v Morocco @ $2.00
Kaliningrad Stadium, 4:00am
I think it’s gonna be a matter of by how many in what is a must win game for Spain if they want to top the group. Portugal and Spain are sitting on the same points and goal difference with one game to play so both sides will be chasing bulk goals from the off. After two good performances without a result, Morocco will be looking to finish the tournament on a high and I doubt they’ll be playing for a draw. Spain struggled to break down a resilient Iran side but I’m hoping they’ve learnt their lesson and are far more clinical this time round. The big ogre Diego Costa is in goal scoring form and he will be an important figure if La Furia are gonna put Morocco to the sword.
Prediction: 3 – 0
Iran v Portugal (win) @ 1.67
Mordovia Arena, 4.00am
Similar sentiment to the Spain game, as Portugal will be needing to score more goals than Spain to finish on top although Iran can also go through with an upset win. I doubt very highly that Iran will upset the European champions but I think it will be a lot closer than expected. Iran got a last minute winner in the first round against Morocco then only just went down 1-0 to Spain.
Conceding only one goal so far Iran are by no means easy beats. Again all eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo as Portugal will look to their talisman to carry the brunt of the goal scoring duties. Portugal should comfortably take the three points here I’m just not too sure how resolute the Irani defence will be.
Prediction: 0 – 2
